Biafra: IPOB May Stop Igbos From Producing Nigeria’s President – Okorocha

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has stated that the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra will affect the chances of Igbos to produce Nigeria’s president.
According to him, the agitators had every right to complain about marginalization and not a call for separation from the country.
He told newsmen on Thursday that IPOB was not good for the South East, and it was not the best way for them to complain about marginalisation to the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
He said, “There are better ways; the IPOB way is too primitive. If IPOB must do a thing like that it should have changed the name and fought the way Ijaw youths fought, Arewa youths fought, and they would have made more impact. For everything that comes from the Igbo man, we love to go to the extreme.
“Now you want to separate yourself from Nigeria, meanwhile, South-South will not go with you, Edo, Rivers will not go with you. If you cut us off here now as South east, if I need to go to Rivers State, I will go and ask for passport and visa, and we are keeping quiet to say this.
“If there is a crisis now, there is no Hausa man in Igbo land who has a duplex, there is no Yoruba man who has a room and parlour or a N20 million investment in Igbo land, but Igbo have trillions of naira virtually everywhere.
“The same people are asking for secession. If Igbo are asked to go, what happens? They would lose their property, and all of us are keeping quiet, supporting IPOB! It was very childish, and those behind this should stop, that is my advice.
“South-South has produced the president, South-West has produced a president and Vice President, the north has produced many presidents, it is hoping that one day in the next shift, by whatever arrangement, the next people that should be considered is the South-East by Nigeria’s sharing formula.
“So, where are we in our wisdom and the intelligence? That is my position on IPOB; my advice is that Igbo should change their style and condemn IPOB in a manner that should be done and let us flow with the rest of Nigeria for now because we shall benefit more than anyone else.”

“Why Kanu’s Radio Biafra Is Still Operational In London” – British Government

The United Kingdom has denied receiving any request from the Nigerian government to shut down Radio Biafra.
On Wednesday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, told State House correspondents that despite all the damage done by the Nnamdi Kanu-owned station, the British government was allowing it to continue to operate.
“Who does not know that the IPOB internal radio is located in London? We know the diplomatic moves we have been taking and approaching the UK, all the damages it (Radio Biafra) has done, but they don’t see it that way, for them (the British government), it is about freedom of expression,” Mohammed said.
However, the British High Commission, in a statement by its Press & Public Affairs Officer, Joe Abuku, said: “The UK is not aware of any representation from the Nigerian government about Radio Biafra.
“Were we to receive any such request, we would of course consider it carefully on the basis of the available evidence, recognising that freedom of speech and expression carries responsibilities.”

Ajimobi, Ambode, Alaafin, Others Insist On Restructuring

By Daramola Adebayo
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, his counterparts, Senator Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun) and Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos) and the Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III on Monday insisted that the present composition of government must be restructured. They spoke in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital during the All Progressives Congress (APC) South West Zonal public meeting on true federalism.

The meeting had in attendance party members, traditional rulers and civil society groups from Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states.

Ajimobi who spoke through his Deputy, Chief Moses Alake said that the call for restructuring was an indication that something urgently must be done to address the popular agitation.

He said, “It should, however be stated that the fact that the call for restructuring under whatever name organize, be it true federalism, devolution of powers, regionalism, resource control or whatever, has again resurfaced in nigeria, it is an indication that something needs to be addressed on the current structure of arrangement”.
Ajimobi said he was oppose to the issue of regionalism but believed that except there are legal caveats, regions may be too powerful and that may further heighten the possibility of secession by certain region that are tired of continuing with a united Nigeria.

Ajimobi noted that the local government should be totally subjected to the state irrespective of the region.

“Under this arrangement, local government will be operating completely under the states while revenue allocation formula should be reviewed upward in favour of states to about 35 percent.”

Amosun said that the people of his state have also lend their voices to the issue of restructuring.

Represented by his chief of staff, Chief Tolu Odebiyi, Amosun noted that it was important that people should decide how they want to be governed since government is all about the people.
He said, “On this note, permit me to say our state (Ogun) is very much with our other sister states in the Southwestern Nigeria as per our aspiration and yearning
“We (in Ogun state) strongly believe in fiscal federalism, we believe that each state should have control of its resources, we beleieve in state police, and basically all the issues we are here to discuss.”

Representative of governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye said the state was in support of restructuring, adding that the position of the recent Yoruba summit in Ibadan remains the position of Lagos state government
In his own contributions, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamide Adeyemi III said it is sacrosanct to restructure the country as soon as possible to avoid what happened in Union of Soviet Socialist Republic (USSR) and other countries such as Romania.

Alaafin said the present structure where state with the highest population (Lagos) with over 20 million people is having only 20 local government while Kano with 6 million population is having 44 local government areas is unjust and unfair.

He noted that those in power should heed the calls from various quarters to restructure the country, warning that countries such as USSR and Romania were once in this kind of situation but the leaders turned deaf ears to the call which led to forcefu break-up.
Oba Adeyemi said, “What I am saying is that, if we did not restructure Nigeria what happened in USSR may happen, USSR was break with force. Romania also was divided through force. That is the way their leaders were doing.
“36 states workers are not being paid, the governors cannot pay them. What cause these was the killing of political leaders in the first republic which was sectional and unjust.
“Ironsi scrap the Federal structure and replaced it with unitary, since then we have not come back to true federalism. Until we go back to the glorious days of marketing board, there is no need for Federal Ministry of Culture, Federal Government has no culture.
“Lagos has 20 local government areas with 20 million people, Kano has 44 local government with 6 million people, where do they do that throughout the world. Just like Kano, Jigawa state has more local government than Lagos state”.

Other groups that supported restructuring at the event included; NURTW, TUC, NLC, Afenifere, Atayese, Yoruba sumit group and others.
Present at the meeting were Governor Simon Bako Lalong of Plateau State who is the Chairman for the Oyo, Ogun and Lagos meeting, Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo; Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Micheal Adeyemo and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji.

Ramos asks for leniency from refs

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos believes English referees are more lenient than their Spanish counterparts and has asked La Liga match officials to take a leaf out of the Premier League book after being sent off in Sunday's 3-0 win at Deportivo La Coruna.
The captain earned a second booking in injury time for elbowing Deportivo's Borja Valle while challenging for an aerial ball, adding to the yellow card he received in the second half for slapping Fabian Schar in an off-the-ball scuffle.
"In some areas we need to look more at English football and let the players play on more, I like their system better. In Europe referees are more tolerant," Ramos, who received the 23rd red card of his Real Madrid career, told reporters.
"I don't agree with the (second) yellow card, it was harsh, but I respect the opinion of the referee. I have no intention of hurting him, I just supported myself, but you learn from everything."
Explaining the first incident with Schar, which occurred when Deportivo's Zakaria Bakkali player was injured on the floor, Ramos added: "We didn't kick the ball out because they didn't do it (earlier in the game).
"They ran after me, Schar headbutted me and all I did was push him out the way without trying to hurt him."
Ramos is Real's most sent off player, with former defender Fernando Hierro trailing way behind on 12 red cards.
Out of Ramos's 23 red cards, 18 have come in the La Liga, three were shown in the Champions League and two in the King's Cup. The centre back, however, has never been dismissed in 143 games for Spain.
Five players were sent off in eight Liga games over the weekend, compared to two in nine Premier League games.
